#TSFxMadewell Denim Event

DENIM DREAMS DO COME TRUE…

From the start of The Stella Files, Madewell has been a huge inspiration to me when it comes to my own personal style. The carefree, cool-girl vibe and their insanely perfect boyfriend jeans have kept me coming back for more every time. Not too long ago, my local Madewell store reached out to me and we decided to host a collaborative event to celebrate their latest denim arrivals for the summer season! The great thing about Madewell denim is that not only are they classically chic, but they are crafted to literal perfection by experts in Los Angeles, New York City, and Kentucky. Another amazing thing about Madewell denim is the environmentally friendly aspect of their denim. Madewell accepts denim donations to benefit causes such as Habitat For Humanity! If that’s not enough to make the denim lover in all of us swoon, I don’t know what is!

A HUGE THANKS TO…

The Emmett Street Madewell team for hosting me! Overall, this event was a major success and I am so grateful and thankful for everyone that came out to support. I absolutely loved helping Madewell celebrate their new denim arrivals, I had such an amazing time meeting all of the new members of The Stella Files audience, and such an amazing time styling some of my closest friends! I’m so excited to keep rocking my favorite Madewell pieces, you guys never let me down.

Another huge thanks to Paradox Pastry for the yummiest raspberry macaroons, and a very special thanks to Nicole from the Emmett Street Madewell for reaching out to me in the first place and for working so hard to make this a possibility! You’re a total Boss Lady and it was so great to work with you!

UNTIL NEXT TIME,

LYNCHSTOCK STYLE GUIDE 2017 | MUSIC FESTIVAL SEASON LOOKBOOK

FORGET THE HOLIDAYS…

Music festival season is the most wonderful time of the year. I think we all have that one Pinterest board full of style inspiration just in case a miracle happens and we end up with Coachella tickets in our possession (someday, Stel, someday). Until then, my city has their own music festival called Lynchstock. Lynchstock (Lynchburg + Woodstock) is an amazing event filled with community, vendors (two of which happen to be my best friends!), and super cool local bands! This is my first year going, and I’m sure I’m not the only newcomer to a music festival. I pieced together five festival approved looks to keep you cool in the heat, and in that perfect Instagram pic we all know we’re dying to get!

LOOK ONE: “GOLDEN GAL”

For this look, I paired some basic Abercrombie & Fitch ripped denim high-rise shorts with an Abercrombie & Fitch open back bodysuit. Since the back to the bodysuit is basically nonexistent, I layered it on top of my favorite Calvin Klein bralette to give a cool girl “Tumblr” vibe to this festival-goer get up. This look is perfect for the daytime heat, and the chilly festival nights. I threw on a vintage GAP mustard yellow leather jacket to keep warm when the sun goes down. This jacket is the perfect statement piece to throw on over a simple outfit. To keep the focus on the jacket, I threw on my favorite lace up gladiator sandals from Madewell. For accessories, I just tied my favorite silk bandana from J. Crew around my neck, and a massive pair of Lennon sunglasses to keep the sun out of my eyes.

GET THE LOOK:

LOOK TWO: “DESERT DISCO QUEEN”

For this look, I kept the same shorts, sandals, and bralette, but replaced the jacket and bodysuit with one of the coolest pieces I own. You may have seen this glittery wrap top in my “Golden Hour” Holiday Lookbook, but this top could go as a layered piece or on its own! This look is perfect if you want to catch the sunlight and go for the boho-glam look without feeling like you’re overdoing it! Not only will it keep you cool in the outdoor climate, but it’ll make you look and feel like a seasoned music festival veteran.

GET THE LOOK:

LOOK THREE: “BANDANA BABE”

So if I can’t wear a bandana around my neck, I’ll wear it on my head and on my romper! For this look I paired my favorite Steve Madden suede thigh-high boots with a very Danielle Bernstein-esque bandana printed romper. This romper is perfect with these boots because it offsets the structure of the boots with a flowy silhouette. To accessorize, I threw on a 90’s tattoo choker, a Madewell bandana scarf around my head, and some round Lennon sunnies.

GET THE LOOK:

LOOK FOUR: “DUSTY ROSE”

Dusty Rose velvet everything is SO in right now! For this look, I layered this dusty rose velvet slip dress from T.J. Maxx over top of a Madewell white tee shirt. For accessories, I paired some worn-in Converse Chuck Taylor’s, Chanel sunglasses, and a tattoo choker to give this look that coveted 90’s vibe for this festival season. To add a personal touch, I tied my shoelaces around my ankles instead of the traditional bow to imitate Coachella-esque anklets.

GET THE LOOK:

LOOK FIVE: “WHITE FERRARI”

This look is doing the most. Named after one of my favorite songs, this look is dreamy and makes a statement all at the same time. I paired this billowy, open back Free People mini-dress with a pair of high waisted denim shorts, tucked in to give it a layered, casual vibe. This Coachella approved look is topped off with a woven choker and J. Crew distressed cowboy boots.

I had such a great time curating all of these looks and finding the closest possible matches in case any of you lovely readers are feelin’ these fits! Make sure you keep an eye out for my Lynchstock 2017 blog post to see which outfit I decided to rock!

See you all there!

XOXO,

THE FRINGE EDIT | URBAN EARTH TONES

THE ULTIMATE “COOL GIRL” SWEATER…

Madewell, you’ve outdone yourselves again. This sweater has very quickly become my go-to sweater to throw on for when I want to look like I have my life together. This chic take on an updated “granny” sweater is perfect for draping over your shoulders on a chilly night, or wrapping up in while café hopping with your best gal pal. I headed out with my girl Katherine and explored Downtown Lynchburg a bit, and I knew I had to bring this fringed beauty along on the adventure. I paired my Desert Valley Fringe Cardigan Sweater with my favorite scoop-neck black tee (I’ve had this bad boy for years, never fails!), my high rise Cali Demi-Boot drop-hem jeans, and my RIDE OR DIE Jeffrey Campbell World Tours. This sweater is extremely loud, so it’s important to have the entire look be complimentary of the star of the show. I kept my color palette muted and fairly structured while still being relaxed. I felt MEGA cool in this outfit, and that’s the most important part. Be bold and confident in what you decide to wear, because 9 times out of 10…you’re going to rock it!

I styled my mega cool BFF, Katherine, in one of my favorite combinations ever. So, the thing about this look is that it’s breaking a major fashion rule: mixing navy and black. Who made this rule? I’d like to speak to your manager. Being totally real with you guys right now, I am actually a MAJOR fan of the navy/black combo and I rock it all the time. I styled Katherine in a super chic J. Crew navy turtleneck, tucked into my favorite pair of black Madewell high riser jeans (with hems frayed by yours, truly), an athleisure-esque pair of navy Adidas Gazelles, and a super cool, super sleek Zara windbreaker trench.

I had such a blast styling and shooting these looks. A major thanks to my girl K for being super fun to work with, and insanely stunning! My clothes looked better on her than they do on me, tbh. I hope you all enjoyed this post! Let me know what you want to see next, and if you want me to raid your closet, I’m looking to start a new styling series! So just head to my “Let’s Chat” page and shoot me an email if you’re interested!

XOXO,

THE GOLDEN HOUR | HOLIDAY LOOKBOOK 2016-2017

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…

Which means holiday parties are popping up like wildflowers! Sometimes it’s so difficult to figure out what to wear, whether it be an office party, family gathering, “Friendsmas” dinner, or that super cool black-tie event that you’ve been so excited about attending. If you remember last year (for my day-one readers) I photographed a Holiday Lookbook to kick off the season. It was filled with fur hats and dreamy silhouettes…this year, however, we kicked it up a notch. Here at The Stella Files we broke out the ballgowns and the riding boots to serve up some equestrian-chic looks for you this holiday season!

My inspiration for this year’s lookbook was everything Free People, and the way the sun shines through my windows in the morning, hence the title: “The Golden Hour”. I love the juxtaposition of ballgowns photographed in a barn, and the raw look that the farm gives to these otherwise polished looks. “The Golden Hour” is all about everything that glitters, shimmers, and shines; warm tones and golden accents.

MATERIAL GIRL | NEUTRALS & MIXED TEXTURES

WE ARE LIVING IN A MATERIAL WORLD…

And I am DEFINITELY a Material Girl. I’m totally texture oriented when it comes to clothes; I have to feel the fabric before I can even consider buying the piece of clothing (this is a serious issue when it comes to online shopping!!!). This season is all about mixing textures. Faux fur, crushed velvet, and shredded denim continue to pop up where you would least expect it, and I don’t think any of us fashion girls are complaining! I love that there is so much more room for experimentation this season, and I’m taking full advantage of it.

If you’ve been on my Instagram, Twitter…or even seen me IRL…you know that I’ve been mad obsessed with these shredded Madewell jeans! It’s so difficult to find denim that is frayed in all the right places and still fit like a dream, and these are definitely THAT pair. Now, shredded denim screams casual, so you have to work a little bit harder to dress them up.

how stella wears it:

When I want to dress up my shredded denim, I normally opt for a black turtleneck (literally my signature, go-to piece) or a top with either a bit of lace or a super streamlined silhouette. Since I don’t really have a place to go where I need to wear heels, I normally just pair my jeans with my Madewell mules or a super clean ballet flat. Not only are they super comfortable, but they compliment the loud denim.

This look has a lot of loud pieces, but the piece that stands out to me the most is definitely my camel-colored wool Madewell coat. I first laid my eyes on it in my local J. Crew store, and I picked it up and couldn’t put it down! I’m so drawn to the oversized blazer look. I’ve always been inspired by menswear-turned-feminine, and this coat is the perfect opportunity to take this look on for myself. The lapels give this otherwise loose coat a sense of structure.

how stella wears it:

This coat is oversized and will swallow you up if you aren’t careful. The best thing about it is the neutral tone and the lapels that make it super versatile. I love this coat with a black turtleneck and some high rise skinnies if you can’t find a pair of ripped-up jeans. *Balance out large outerwear with a fitted tee or jeans.

For shoes I wanted to showcase my fishnet socks that I scored (for $3.00!) at a J. Crew sale. I’m literally obsessed with these. Fishnets are so on trend right now, and I’m loving how everyone is rocking them. I paired them with my Madewell mules to make them look a bit more wearable.

how stella wears it:

I love these socks with this look, I just feel like it adds such a personal touch. I would also totally pair these with a pair of leather biker boots and let the tops of the socks peek out. Fishnets, whether they be in sock form or in tights, look super cool with distressed clothing. If you’re looking to rock that urban-grunge cool girl look, grab yourself a pair of fishnets and head out the door! Fishnets and mules are EVERYTHING this season.

ONE LEATHER JACKET, TWO WAYS | THE STYLE FILES | COLLABORATION WITH KYLE SEAGRAVES

LEATHER JACKETS ARE TRENDING LIKE MAD…

And I have to say…I’m totally excited about it! There’s so much one can do with a leather Moto-Jacket. Add an edgy flair to a super feminine outfit, throw it over some sweats and your favorite Nikes for the ultimate “Cool Girl” athleisure look, the combinations are endless. With Fall quickly making its presence known and the plethora of AMAZING Fashion Week looks, I felt über inspired. I decided it was my turn to show off how I rock a leather jacket, and I styled it for you guys two ways!

*All photos are taken by the mega talented photographer Kyle Seagraves! Kyle does engagement/wedding shoots, senior photos, group photoshoots, product shots, and blog shoots! He was so much fun to work with, and the pictures came out amazing! LOOK ONE:

jacket: J. Crew Collection

tee shirt: J. Crew

denim: Madewell

mules: Madewell

geometric ring: J. Crew

silver ring: Madewell

cuff bracelet: J. Crew

For this first look I paired my J. Crew Collection leather Moto-Jacket with a simple ash-grey cotton v-neck tee, my favorite high-rise bluejeans, and super chic Madewell mule flats. This look is perfect for running around downtown (wink wink, nudge nudge), or for a fall lunch date with your boo or your best girlfriends!

LOOK TWO:

jacket: J. Crew Collection

turtleneck: vintage J. Crew

denim: Madewell

loafers: J. Crew

For this look, I paired my jacket with a vintage grey and black striped J. Crew turtleneck, black toothpick high-rise jeans, and my FAAAAVORITE J. Crew loafers. Now, I know what you’re all probably thinking…”Ew, she mixed navy and black!” NO it’s actually one of my favorite combos to rock, and it’s totally cool to mix navy and black. You do you, ladies! This look is more of an evening to nighttime look; I feel like the loafers and the jeans dress it up a bit.

I had SO much fun working on this post, and so much fun shooting! Make sure to check out Kyle Seagraves on Instgram and his website!

ALSO…make sure you show me YOUR Fall style! I love to hear from you guys, so be sure to tag me @stellalizabeth and #thestellafiles!
