Feeling Glad | Inspired by Man Repeller Partnered with Gladiola Girls

The Glad Life(style): (n.)

“A way of intentional living. A celebration of individual style, respect toward the world, and appreciation for quality and timeless character. Choose thoughtfully. Live divinely.”

There is nothing I love more than waking up on a Saturday morning and heading down to my favorite local shops. One gem in particular that I have become totally obsessed with over the past few months is a local boutique in Lynchburg called Gladiola Girls. Known for repping the “Glad Lifestyle,” this hidden treasure in my hometown has become the hot spot for the most amazing finds. Whether it be carefully and brilliantly curated vintage pieces, or the latest and greatest denim, I find something new that I love every time I step into this store.

Whilst scrolling through my Instagram feed, chock full of posts from my favorite bloggers, I spotted a trend that I’m slightly in love with, and by slightly, I mean head over (kitten) heels. The 2000’s dress-over-jeans phenomenon is back with a vengeance, everyone. My favorite blogger, Leandra Medine Cohen, the genius behind blog “Man Repeller”, has been rocking this look like a queen, and I couldn’t help myself from taking a shot at it.

I teamed up with Gladiola Girls to bring you my very own rendition of the dress-over jeans look for Spring. This look is one that took my heart absolutely by storm; it is every bit of feminine and edgy that I need in a look to still maintain my dainty (yet still hypebeast) Paris Fashion Week-esque thing I have going on. Here’s how I styled my pieces!

IMG_7797IMG_7798IMG_7799IMG_7800

I styled this beautiful Free People “Sweet Sunny Day” tunic with my favorite pair of DL denim, and Sam Edelman’s classic Ludlow kitten heel in the perfect shade of nude. I absolutely love how the Free People tunic hangs on the body, and how the skirt catches the wind to give the dreamiest effect. Not to mention these jeans by DL Denim; a mega-comfy high rise (my personal favorite) with effortless distressing to give a laid-back look. I just had to pair everything with these kitten heels, for one because I love a good kitten heel, and because they are quite possibly the most versatile shoe. Kitten heels are a great way to amp up any outfit while still maintaining comfort and wearability. You can stop in at Gladiola Girls to check out all of these items! Try them on for yourself and you’ll see what I mean (meaning you’ll become instantly obsessed, no doubt.)

A huge thanks to Gladiola Girls for constantly giving me endless inspo! Make sure you head to Gladiola Girls to check out these pieces!

THE POST ABOUT PANTS

THE POST ABOUT PANTS

Yes, that’s right, pants.

I never paid any mind to the bottom half of an outfit. For me, it was always a nice, medium to dark wash skinny jean, and that was that. That is…until I started thrifting. I know I talk all the time about thrifting and how ah-mazing it is. And it is! Not only is it extremely eco-friendly, but you can find some really phenomenal and rare pieces for, often times, pennies. When I first started thrifting, I only had eyes for that coveted pair of vintage Levi’s; trousers were ~outdated~ and completely out of the question. Well, I found my Levi’s, but along the way there actually were some trousers that caught my eye. I remember the first pair I ever picked up: high-rise, straight leg, blue and white pinstripe Brandy Melville look-a-likes. Little did I know that I would actually kind of become a little bit obsessed with thrifted trousers; the louder and funkier, the better. As I was packing up my dorm to go home for winter break, I realized that I had somewhere over 40 pairs of pants, all except for maybe my Reformation jeans were thrifted. As I’ve been sort of coming into my own and learning what my style actually is, I realized how much power is in a pair of pants. In this post, I’m going to share my favorite pairs of trousers that I have picked up over first semester, and how I style them!

New Year’s Resolutions & Hello 2018

New Year’s Resolutions & Hello 2018

Hi readers,

To think that 2017 is coming to a close is really kind of mind-blowing to think about. Like most everyone else, I’ve been scrolling through Instagram looking at (and making my own) everyone’s sweet little sentimental story montages, and it got me to thinking about my New Year’s resolutions. I wanted to sit down and really put my heart and soul into these resolutions, as I have never really been serious or even given much thought to making changes to my life after the ball drops. But 2017 Stella is different, and has grown into somebody who does not want to stop growing. Like plenty of other things in my life, I thought what better way to bring in the New Year than to share it with the audience that has shown me what my true passion is in life.

  1. Pop more bottles (of Evian hahahahah I’m sorry. But for real, I need to drink more water.)
  2. Be more disciplined about spending time with Jesus everyday and really making it a point to seek God’s will in my life. None of this matters if God isn’t at the center of it.
  3. Spend more time outside (when it’s warmer, obviously)
  4. Journal! Journaling is such a great way to track personal growth.
  5. FILM MORE YOUTUBE VIDEOS! YES I KNOW, I’M INCONSISTENT, THAT’S GONNA BE FIXED IN 2018!
  6. Be more consistent in posting blog posts!
  7. Watch more movies
  8. Cook more
  9. ACTUALLY go to the gym. Getting there is the worst part, but once I’m in it’s actually not that bad.
  10. Combat anxiety and being pessimistic and look on the bright side, because there is always a bright side!
  11. Doodle more, paint more, draw more.
  12. Make more Spotify playlists.
  13. Spend more time with my family.
  14. Be intentional about spending time with people I don’t normally see on a daily basis.
  15. Be more intentional about friendships.

I’m keeping it short & sweet, and I’m so excited to keep up with these resolutions in 2018. This year has been a year full of so much growth, change, and development mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I have closed a chapter completely on my life and opened a new one at the same time, and it has been the most incredible and trying experience. When I look back on this year, I think of the doors that were slammed shut, but then I think about the doors that flung right open. Some almost instantly, some required waiting and patience (probably the most important lesson that I learned this year), but nevertheless, I have been so blessed. I am so grateful for all of the people that have come into my life and remained; you all are such huge pieces of who I am and you make life so much brighter. I am so thankful and most of all, humbled, by all of the insane once-in-a-lifetime opportunities I have had this year. From hosting an event at Madewell to visiting the Mogul offices in Hearst Tower (an actual dream come true), to interning with College Fashionista and moving up in the program, all of these opportunities have reminded me that nothing worth having comes except through my God, who is so faithful, and from working your actual butt off.

My prayer is that you all have an amazing 2018: one full of triumph, motivation, inspiration, & growth.

Thank you all.

Happy New Year.

XOXO,

STELLA

BUBBLEGUM PINK & COLORBLOCKED EVERYTHING

BUBBLEGUM PINK & COLORBLOCKED EVERYTHING

My lovely readers!

I’m back yet AGAIN with one of my favorite outfits of all time. You all know by now that I’m on the rainbow express, and to be completely honest, I don’t think I’ll ever hop off. I’m completely OBSESSED with color and experimenting with different shapes and silhouettes, proportions, the whole nine yards. I scored these incredible J. Crew Collection wide leg, high rise, bubblegum pink trousers at a recent J. Crew warehouse sale (because getting beautiful clothing on sale is an actual adrenaline rush for me) and paired them with this super funky mock-neck crop top from Free People. What I love about this top is how simple it is, yet it fills the sort of ~void~ that would normally be missing from an outfit with a simple top. To complete this look, I paired it with my all-time-favorite platform Old Skool Vans.

PAJAMAS IN PUBLIC

PAJAMAS IN PUBLIC

So while I was in Georgetown for a quick post-Christmas weekend trip, of course I had to do some major shopping. Of all the places, I had the best luck in a Banana Republic, which I haven’t stepped foot in in years. Not only are some of their pieces totally slept on, but they had an insane sale in which I was able to pick up this INCREDIBLE silk blue, purple, and white pinstriped suit.

I bet you’re all wondering, “Wait, Stella, since when do you actually wear color?” Well, readers, I’m just as blown away as you are. Recently my eyes have been opened to how much fun color is to wear & style, and how once you’re out of your comfort zone, there is no limit to the possibilities of a sick ‘fit. This suit has me feeling all kinds of inspired and it’s also embracing one of my favorite trends: pajamas in public. For this look, I paired my Banana Republic suit with a contrasting Metallica tee from H&M to break up the matchy-matchy aspect of the whole outfit. To top it all off, I threw on my Gucci belt and my favorite, go-to platform Old Skool Vans.

TREND PREDICTIONS FOR 2018

With 2017 coming to an end, it’s time to start planning for everything to come in the new year! There’s been some amazing LEWKS and you know what they say, everything gets better with time, so 2018 is about to take the game to the next level. To bring in the new year and new season, I’ve pulled together a compilation of some trends that I’m currently loving, and that I also believe we’ll be seeing plenty of in 2018.

ASIAN INFLUENCED PRINTS, PATTERNS, & SILHOUETTES

Lately I have been totally obsessed with everything Asian-inspired. From the high mock-neck dresses and buttons, to the wild colors and prints, I have totally fallen in love. Not only am I obsessed, but it seems the rest of the blogosphere is, as well. Brands, starting at H&M and all the way up to Gucci are starting to usher in a new wave of culture influenced pieces.

PAJAMAS IN PUBLIC

Now, as much as I love a good street-ready outfit, sometimes it’s just impossible to convince myself to roll out of bed and put on a fresh change of clothes. Well, readers, in 2018 you won’t have to! Kidding, but there is some truth to that to an extent. The biggest way we’ll be seeing this trend in the new year is in simple silhouettes, silky fabrics, and probably half tucked into a sick pair of matching trousers.

STYLE WITH A STATEMENT

And by that, I mean a literal statement. Off-White has made wearable words the new black, and I have a strong feeling that this trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon in 2018, so break out your best vocabulary-clad pieces and hit the streets in style.

LOUD FLORALS & CLASHING PATTERNS

I don’t know if it’s just because everyone is longing for the Spring/Summer season to roll around, or if we’re all just now realizing that florals are SO underrated, but this pattern is coming back into fashion with a vengeance. I’ve seen loads of street style shots featuring loud florals, clashing colors and prints, and playing with pushing the limit, and we’d better get used to it.

WOMEN OWNING MENSWEAR

This is probably the trend that I’ve been rocking the most recently, and the trend that I think will lead us head-on into the new year without a trace of hesitancy. This trend is fearless, empowering, and it turns masculine structures into an exoskeleton of hard core girl power. Look out for blazers, yes, WITH the shoulder-pads, and tailored suits.

MONOCHROMATIC & PRIMARY COLORS | How To Wear It

MONOCHROMATIC & PRIMARY COLORS | How To Wear It

I have been so inspired by extreme streetwear brands, one in particular being Off-White by Virgil Abloh. Off-White is a super industrial, everyday-items-into-fashion type of brand, and I am absolutely obsessed. I love where streetwear is going because there is so much room for experimentation, creativity, and it’s okay to rock clashing primary colors. Bolder is better, and it looks super hard core. For this look, I really channeled my inner hypebeast and threw my own twist into it (denim on denim, it’s classic). I paired a matching beanie and long sleeve crewneck tee from J. Crew with this massively oversized Lee’s denim jacket that I thrifted, and my go-to high rise cigarette jeans from Reformation. To accessorize, I cinched the waist of my jacket with this super cool colorblocked D-ring belt, classic Chanel sunglasses, and this beautiful bright yellow leather bag that I picked up from J. Crew. The key to colorblocking with monochromatic colors like electric blue and bright yellow is to keep it concise. I tied in the shirt with the beanie, the bag with the belt, and brought the whole look back down to earth with staple pieces, such as high rise jeans and a denim jacket.
